Fair Measure Privacy Policy
Fair Measure is designed to keep nutrition tracking on your iPhone. This policy explains what stays local and what is sent elsewhere when you choose an optional integration.
Information stored on your device
Fair Measure stores meals, meal items, saved foods, recipes, food and label images, profile and goal information, weight history, targets, reports, and preferences locally on your device. This information is not sent to us for ordinary local tracking.
Apple Health
If you grant permission, Fair Measure may read selected Health data such as body weight and energy information, and may write nutrition samples that you approve. Apple controls that data through HealthKit. You can change permissions at any time in the Health app or iPhone Settings.
Optional managed AI
If you enable managed AI, Fair Measure may send the specific meal photos, label photos, text, audio transcription request, or already-aggregated report information needed for the feature you choose. Managed AI requires Sign in with Apple so requests can be rate-limited and protected. We do not intentionally store your nutrition records as a backend database.
Requests to the AI provider ask for response storage to be disabled. That setting is not itself a guarantee of zero retention by the provider. Fair Measure only displays a zero-data-retention status when the backend has been explicitly configured and verified for that setting.
Optional food database lookups
Fair Measure checks your saved foods locally first. If you explicitly request an online barcode lookup, the barcode digits are sent to the Fair Measure backend and then to Open Food Facts. Your package photos are not sent to Open Food Facts.
During managed meal analysis, a recognized generic food name may be used to retrieve composition candidates. The backend may send that generic name to Fineli or USDA FoodData Central. Meal photos are not sent to those food databases. Confirmed products and nutrition records remain in the app's local food library.
Your own AI provider
If you configure an OpenAI-compatible provider, your request is sent directly from the app to the endpoint you choose. The endpoint, model, and API key are stored in the iOS Keychain. That provider's privacy policy and retention practices apply to those requests.
Sign in with Apple
For managed cloud features such as Fair Measure AI and online food database lookup, the app uses Sign in with Apple to obtain a private account identifier and create a short-lived session. The backend verifies Apple's identity token and does not intentionally maintain a profile database.
What we do not do
Fair Measure does not sell personal information, use advertising identifiers, or require cloud AI for local nutrition tracking. We do not intentionally log request bodies, meal images, audio, report payloads, identity tokens, API keys, or provider responses.
